The Department is small enough to maintain a friendly atmosphere, yet large enough to offer a good range of teaching programmes, research and community/business reach out activity. We pride ourselves on our excellent staff-student relations. We have close ties to other Departments in the Faculty of Science especially Engineering and Mathematics as well as with the Faculty of Health and the Business School.
The aims of the Department are closely aligned with those of the University. We aim for a balance between teaching, research and reach out that includes quality in teaching and reach out, and research of national and international renown. These aims are pursued in the context of our subject as it develops, and relative to the needs of the local, national and international community.
