Neural, Emergent and Agent Technologies Research Group
The NEAT Research Group pursues basic and applied research in the areas of neural networks, genetic algorithms, emergent (evolutionary) systems, knowledge systems (including fuzzy logic and computation), robotics, machine learning and agent technologies. This research is highly acclaimed and internationally recognised specially in the areas of neural networks, non-linear systems, and multi-sensor fusion and integration. The group is tackling problems in mobile robots, autonomous (intelligent) systems (including e-commerce), computer vision and medical applications. Members currently hold patents in the area of genetic algorithms for autonomous robots.
Members of the
research group collaborate with other groups in the University (Engineering,
Chemistry, Psychology, Medicine) and with internationally renowned groups
from The Fraunhaufer Institute (
Members of the group publish in a variety of international journals, including Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing; Intelligent Systems; IEEE Robotics and Automation; IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems; Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence; Robotica; International Journal of Information, Education and Research in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence; Automatica; International Journal of Robotics Research; and Bio Cybernetics. They are guest editors of the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, and have also been members of programme committees for gatherings such as the International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Control; the International Conference on Control and Applications; and the IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems.
The group focuses on the four thematic areas of: Neural Networks and Neuro-Fuzzy Systems, Cognitive Architectures, Fault-Tolerant Systems and Knowledge Systems.
